Sam Rowser Honored with Friend of Community College Award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — September 29, 2026 — On Point for College is proud to announce that Executive Director Samuel Rowser has received the Friend of Community College Award from the New York Community College Trustees. Rowser was recognized at the organization’s annual meeting in Saratoga Springs on September 18.

The award recognizes Rowser’s longstanding commitment to expanding educational opportunities for students and his deep connection to community colleges throughout his career.

“For me, this award is a validation of On Point for College and the work we have done to help students pursue their education at the community college level,” said Rowser. “It recognizes the importance of our partnerships with community colleges and the role we can play together in helping students access higher education and achieve their goals.”

Before joining On Point for College, Sam spent more than a decade as an Admissions Counselor at Onondaga Community College and also served as a Career Development Specialist at the Southwest Community Center.

Today, as Executive Director of On Point for College, he continues that work by helping students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college, navigate higher education, complete their degrees, and prepare for meaningful careers.

A 1986 graduate of Onondaga Community College, where he earned an associate degree in Business Administration, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Psychology and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia College. A United States Marine Corps veteran, he has spent decades creating pathways to education and opportunity for students throughout Central New York.

“Sam embodies the spirit of the NYCCT Friend of Community College Award, as he has dedicated much of his career to advancing community college education,” said Dr. Warren M. Hilton. “Whether supporting students financially, academically, or emotionally, Sam and On Point for College have promoted community college education and completion for thousands of students. Sam truly does keep it On Point when it comes to being a supporter of community colleges and our students.”

The recognition reflects Sam’s longstanding relationship with Onondaga Community College as both an alumnus and former staff member, as well as his continued commitment to students throughout the Central New York community.
