Ethann Browne

Ethann Browne has made the most of his time at SUNY Oswego, combining academic achievement, engineering experience and student leadership as he works toward a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering.

An Oswego High School graduate, Ethann connected with On Point for College before beginning at SUNY Oswego in 2023. On Point has supported him throughout college, from navigating financial aid and academic needs to connecting him with career opportunities and providing practical support when unexpected expenses arose.

At SUNY Oswego, Ethann helped establish the university’s student branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has led the organization as it has grown. Under his leadership, students have traveled to conferences and competitions throughout the Northeast, connected with engineering professionals and gained opportunities to present research and develop their technical skills.

In 2026, Ethann received the IEEE Syracuse Section Award in recognition of his work to start, grow and sustain the SUNY Oswego student branch. The honor reflects a commitment to engineering that extends well beyond the classroom.

Ethann has also built substantial professional experience while completing his degree. After two summers interning with Novelis in Oswego, where he worked with the Utilities Department and gained experience with industrial electrical systems, he joined National Grid as an electrical engineering intern in Syracuse in June 2026.

“Through this experience, I gained hands-on exposure to electrical maintenance, equipment upgrades, and safety-focused design and servicing,” Ethann said of his internship experience.

His interests extend beyond engineering coursework. Ethann serves as director of engineering for SUNY Oswego’s student-run radio station, WNYO 88.9 FM, combining his technical background with another area of interest. He has also earned academic recognition, including a place on SUNY Oswego’s President’s List.

Throughout his college experience, Ethann says the relationships he has developed with On Point staff have been especially meaningful.

“Everybody is very caring, very thoughtful, and very thorough in their jobs, which really makes On Point a unique organization. Cielle Tovey from the Oswego staff is like another mother to me, and everyone on the Syracuse staff is like my aunts and uncles. It’s great to have that bond, that closeness.”

Ethann is on track to graduate from SUNY Oswego in December 2026, completing his degree ahead of the traditional four-year timeline and preparing to begin the next stage of his career in electrical engineering.
