Iz Moxley

Long before Iz Moxley began his professional career in biotechnology, he was already looking for opportunities to turn his interest in science into hands-on experience.

As Iz prepared to attend SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, On Point for College’s Oswego County team helped him secure a paid laboratory internship at Oswego Health. The experience gave him an early opportunity to work in a professional setting and build confidence in the lab.

“My internship has been amazing,” Iz said at the time. “I look forward to it every day. Everyone there is really nice to me, and I’m starting to get a good grasp on the tasks I’m doing and becoming more independent and reliable.”

At SUNY ESF, Iz majored in biotechnology and continued building his research experience. As an academic researcher, he contributed to genome-sequencing projects and laboratory research focused on antibiotic resistance and microbial systems. He also co-authored a peer-reviewed genome announcement published through the American Society for Microbiology, gaining experience in research methodology, revision and data integrity.

On Point continued helping Iz connect his education with professional opportunities. Through an On Point-sponsored internship at CocoJune in Greene, New York, he gained experience in a quality-assurance laboratory, conducting environmental monitoring, clean-room sampling, product culturing and analysis.

Iz graduated from SUNY ESF with his bachelor’s degree in May 2026. He has since taken the next step in his career as a bioanalyst at Quality Chemical Laboratories in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he is building on the microbiology, research and quality-assurance experience he developed throughout college.

From navigating financial aid to finding internships that helped launch his career, Iz credits On Point’s Oswego County team with providing support throughout his college journey.

“It’s very helpful and comforting to know that you have that kind of meaningful support behind you,” he said.
