Title: College Advisor
Status: Fulltime Non-Exempt
Location: Oswego County, NY
Start Date: August 1, 2019

Job Responsibilities:

This position will be based in and around Oswego County, New York.

College Advisor’s focus on assisting the most at risk population gain access to college or vocational school, graduate, and transition to a related occupation in the workforce afterwards. 

They work with students one-on-one to provide assistance in resolving any financial, academic or personal obstacles that may prevent students from starting college or vocational school. They help students connect with relevant campus personnel who support On Point’s mission and understand the challenges our students face.

College Advisors support student retention by visiting students on campuses throughout New York State, sharing presenting success strategies, and helping connecting students to on campus services. In addition to campus visits, College Advisors engage with students through phone calls, text messages, email, and social media.

College advisors will connect students with On Point’s Career Services team to ensure that students align career interests with academic decisions so that they can successfully pursue related career opportunities. College advisors must be able to interface with all levels of community leaders and college personnel. They will also be required to conduct presentations across Oswego County communities and co-present at our pre-college orientation program. They will perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of work experience with young adults, financial aid, college admissions, and/or the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). They must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be able to travel 3-5 days a week and to work occasional evenings and weekends. 

Proficiency with MS Office programs including PowerPoint and effective written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills are also a necessity.

Title: Office Assistant
Status: Fulltime Non-Exempt
Location: Syracuse, NY
Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities:

On Point for College is looking for an Office Assistant to manage our reception area. You will act as the ‘face’ of our company and ensure visitors receive a heartwarming welcome. You will coordinate all front desk activities, including answering calls, filing, photocopying and faxing. Additionally, you will:

  • Provide support to all departments
  • Create and update records ensuring accuracy of information
  • Enter and update information in our “back-office” computer systems (Giftworks) to maintain donor information and (Phoenix) our student database
  • Assist with special projects such as direct mail campaigns
  • Monitor, stock and order office supplies
  • Ensure proper mail distribution
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

The Office Assistant must have an associate’s degree and 2+ years of work experience or the equivalent combination of training and experience performing clerical, administrative and reception duties. Hands on experience with office machines (e.g., fax machines, printers) is a plus.

They must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, as they may be asked to travel and be available to work evenings and weekends for work events. Position Title: Career Services Advisor
Status: Fulltime Non-Exempt

Responsibilities:

Career Services Advisors focus on assisting students and graduates to transition to a related occupation in the workforce. They work with students one-to-one to ensure that career interests align with academic decisions and to help students and graduates successfully pursue career opportunities. Day-to-day activities include assisting students in preparing and revising resumes, assisting students with securing internships/job shadowing opportunities and employment, and conducting career readiness workshops. They also visit campuses throughout New York State to present career success strategies and help students take advantage of on-campus career support services. They communicate with students and graduates via phone, email, social media, and face-to-face. They conduct presentations in the community and at On Point for College student events (e.g., pre-college orientations, workshops). They may be asked to perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Career Services Advisors must have a Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years of experience working with young adults, the unemployed, employers, and/or in career coaching. They must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be available to work occasional evenings and weekends. They must have proficiency with MS Office programs including PowerPoint.  Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills. Lastly, they should be passionate about On Point for College’s mission.
