Title: College and Career Success Advisor
Status: Fulltime Non-Exempt

Overview:

On Point for College helps “at risk” students transition to and succeed in higher education settings. “At risk” is defined as one or more of the following: living in high poverty zip codes, not currently attending high school, being homeless, having refugee or immigrant status, a history of court-involvement, or being a youth with no active parent in their life, and/or aging out of foster care.

Responsibilities:

On Point for College is seeking a College and Career Success Advisor who will focus on assisting students with getting into college or vocational school, graduate, and transition to a related occupation in the workforce. The Advisor will provide one-to-one assistance in resolving financial, academic and personal obstacles to starting college or vocational school. They will perform retention services on campuses throughout New York State by presenting success strategies and ensuring students take advantage of campus services. They will actively engage with current and potential students through campus visits, phone calls & social media. Lastly, they will help connect students with On Point's Career Services team, to help align student career interests with academic decisions and support the successful pursuit of career opportunities. 

Requirements:

The College and Career Success Advisor must have a Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of work experience with young adults, financial aid, college admissions, and/or the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). They must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be able to travel 2 to 3 days a week and be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. They should also be passionate about On Point for College’s mission.

Position Title: Career Services Advisor
Status: Fulltime Non-Exempt
Location: Syracuse, NY
Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities:

Career Action Plan Advisors focus on assisting students and graduates to transition to a related occupation in the workforce. They work with students one-to-one to ensure that career interests align with academic decisions and to help students and graduates successfully pursue career opportunities. Day-to-day activities include assisting students in preparing and revising resumes, assisting students with securing internships/job shadowing opportunities and employment, and conducting career readiness workshops. They also visit campuses throughout New York State to present career success strategies and help students take advantage of on-campus career support services. They communicate with students and graduates via phone, email, social media, and face-to-face. They conduct presentations in the community and at On Point for College student events (e.g., pre-college orientations, workshops). They may be asked to perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Career Action Plan Advisors must have a Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years of experience working with young adults, the unemployed, employers, and/or in career coaching. They must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be available to work occasional evenings and weekends. They must have proficiency with MS Office programs including PowerPoint.  Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills. Lastly, they should be passionate about On Point for College’s mission.

Title: Shuttle Driver
Status: Part-Time Non-Exempt
Location: Syracuse, NY
Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities:

On Point for College is seeking a Shuttle Driver who will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of students, staff and parents in On Point for College vans, personal vehicles, or rental vehicles. In this highly visible role, it is important that the Driver maintains a positive attitude and professional appearance at all times. The Driver welcomes each student with a smile as they transport them to campus tours, placement tests and to and from college.

The Driver operates passenger vans safely and efficiently. They reports accidents, safety situations, vehicle condition, or damage to the Program Director. They inspect exterior and interior of vehicles at the beginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, interior lighting, air conditioning or heating, mirror adjustment, properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, etc. prior to driving the shuttle/van. They ensure that both inside and outside of vehicles are properly cleaned and fueled. They accurately complete student sign in sheets if no advisor is present. Occasionally, they may be asked to also transport supplies, materials, etc. for various On Point events (e.g., Celebration dinner). They perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

The Shuttle Driver must be 25 years old or older (for insurance purposes). They must possess a valid driver’s Class D license, reliable self-transportation, and be available to work evenings and weekends as needed. They must be able to safely operation a vehicle for up to 12 hours in a day and be able to load and unload materials, supplies, etc. from the vehicle. They must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. They must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a courteous manner in keeping with the Curbside philosophy. Lastly, they should be passionate about On Point for College’s mission.
